BK Has the ‘CURE

July 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

After a long day of running errands, I decided to indulge in a pedicure. Not just a simple soak and polish, I wanted to be pampered without having to travel to Manhattan. Instead of trekking to Soho to my usual spot, I decided to keep it local and head to ‘CURE Beauty Bar, a new nail salon that offers manis, pedis and various spa treatments for the face and body.

As I entered ‘CURE I was greeted warmly by the owner and the tranquil atmosphere. Decorated in warm ebony with turquoise and white accents, ‘CURE’s decor was comfortable, inviting and modern. After being booked in the computer by name (a nice, professional touch, considering at traditional ”pick a color” nail spots you have to stay alert for your name to be called or you’ll miss your services) and offered water to drink, I enjoyed the latest VOGUE Italia issue and made friendly small talk. I chose the daily pedicure special, a ”pomegranate/mandarin/honey pedicure” with a wine spritzer for $45.  Right on time, I was promptly taken to a plush armless chair where a pleasant nail tech greeted me (in English) and introduced herself by name. As I sipped my wine spritzer and read my book, I was silently grateful for the excellent service, high quality products and professionalism at ‘CURE. No assembly-line pedicures here, I thought. Nor did I have to peek over my book to make sure the nail tech gave my tootsies the attention they deserved. In short, ‘CURE Beauty Bar is a perfect alternative to Manhattan for when you want to be pampered or are long overdue for a manicure or pedicure.

After the standard trim, file and soak, my feet were treated to an aromotherapy mask and a second treatment to slough off dead skin. Next they were moisturized and massaged (along with legs) leaving my feet soft, supple and my toes polished in the prettiest shade of lavender Essie polish!

Satisfied and relaxed, I waved goodbye and headed out into the BK sunshine. For tired feet that need to be pampered, who knew Brooklyn had the ‘Cure?

Pro Nails-A Perfect Ten

July 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

For females who stay with a fresh mani-pedi, Essie is a very familiar name. Not your grandmother’s polish, ESSIE is my favorite choice for long-lasting nail polish in an array of colors.

During the summertime anything goes when it comes hands and toes but the trendiest colors I’ve seen are the following:

Cobalt Blue

Baby Pink

Lemon Yellow

Neon Orange

Royal Purple

But for a more understated look, try Essie’s classic nude shades on your next visit to the nail salon. Visit http://www.essie.com/tips/ for fresh twists on classic Essie colors.

How to Use Realrandomnyc

July 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Hello Everyone,

By now I hope you have checked out the blog and enjoy what you see. Feedback and comments are welcome. Thanks for the support:-)

Right now I want to explain how to navigate on this blog in order to maximize your experience. All posts are categorized by topic, so if fashion is your thing, visit “Fashion”, and so on and so forth. Daily posts are listed regardless of category.

Explanation of some of the more ambiguous categories:

The “Crush” category is designed to show love to male celeb (and maybe a few unknown) hotties we all adore. “Muse” is a category dedicated to females (past and present) who represent originality, great style or extraordinary talent (or all three). Under ”Inspiration” you can find uplifting quotes and/or advice; just a little substance behind the style. :-)

That’s it for now, check back for more hot topics very soon!

Peace and Love

Smartalecky

Quick, give me three ways you can wear an old t-shirt. Ha, too late!

I knew you couldn’t come up with one let alone three, so here’s a thought: Check out a FLY bag made by SMARTALECKY by Tara Campbell New York.

I met Tara last week hustling her wares in NYC’s Union Square and I was so impressed. An array of colorful totes of various sizes adorned Tara’s inviting stand, where she warmly welcomed me and explained how she made her original bags. This stylish, resourceful lady uses t-shirts (plain or with logos) in order to make custom, one of a kind bags in a variety of sizes. So if you’re looking for a way to recycle those old 80s concert tees or baby tees you can no longer fit over your muffin top (you know who you are:-)), Smartalecky is always a dope option. But instead of giving away all her trade secrets, check her out at www.smartalecky.wordpress.com

I copped a fly grey “I Love NY” slouchy tote, perfect for casual days. Bonus: The soft tote is also reversible with a cute floral, cheetah print on the inside. Support SmartAlecky and shout out to Tara for the inspiration and kind words!
